PM Modi at khunti Court Ranchi

RANCHI: Khunti, the smallest district of the state has been decked up for PM Narendra Modi's visit with the district administration trying to face lift every possible corner of the district for the short visit. Modi will be officially rolling out the national scheme for solar electrification of courts of the country from here for which an announcement was made by the centre during its budget proposal for the financial year 2015-16.

Khunti district court will be the first in the state and country to be equipped with 180KW grid connected to a rooftop solar plant, out of which the court is expected to be using around 64Mws and the rest will be diverted to other government offices.

Jharkhand is all set to host Modi for the fifth time since he assumed office in May 2014. This time the tribal-dominated Khunti in South Chhotanagpur district and sub-capital Dumka, headquarters of Santhal Pargana division will be hosting the PM.

Deputy commissioner, Khunti, Dr Prasad Krishna Waghmare, said that the court campus has already been lit up to check the system and the remaining power has been diverted to the collectorate office. "DC office will be getting around 100MWs which is sufficient to support all electrical equipment," he said.
Earlier this year in March, chief minister Raghubar Das while inaugurating the 13th conference of the National Legal Services Authority (Nalsa) had announced that Jharkhand will be the first state in the country to power all its courts with solar energy. He was encouraged for the announcement after being apprised of the ground work already being done by the judiciary.

According to sources in Jharkhand high court, the idea of solar power linkage of court buildings was envisaged by the acting chief justice DN Patel who was inspired by the solar power revolution of Gujarat. He initiated the process in 2014 which got a strong backing of the state administration later.

The principal secretary to chief minister Sanjay Kumar said that Jharkhand has abundant source of solar power and the idea is to begin with court campuses which in turn will be connected to other government establishments.

Solar electrification of courts is the second national initiative being launched from Jharkhand by the NDA government. Earlier in March this year, the digitization of self-help groups was launched at the country level from Mandu block of Hazaribag district by the Union minister of state for finance, Jayant Kumar Sinha.
